Minjie Zheng
Postdoctoral fellow
I am currently working as a postdoctoral fellow (funded by my own Swedish research grant; PI) at the Institute of Atmospheric and Climate Science at ETH Zürich and the Department of Geology at Lund University. I received my Ph.D. in Quaternary Science from the Geology Department, Lund University, supervised by Prof. Raimund Muscheler.
I mainly work on the natural radionuclides in the cryosphere and atmosphere and their applications in Earth Science using measurements and isotope-enabled global models. I particularly focus on the long-lived cosmogenic radionuclides (Be-10, Cl-36) in ice cores and short-lived radionuclides (Be-7, Rn-222, and Pb-210) in air, precipitation, ocean and soil samples. My research mainly involves (but not limited to):
- Improving paleo-solar and geomagnetic field reconstructions using Be-10 and Cl-36 in ice cores.
- Developing and applying radionuclide isotope-enabled models (ECHAM6.3-HAM2.3 and GEOS-Chem) and simple box models
- Tracing the source distribution of the natural radionuclides using the Lagrangian Trajectory model (HYSPLIT)
