My Ph.D. research was to investigate complementary approaches combining high-resolution methods (2D-gels, µXRF, microsensors, fluorescently labelled embedded core) and multivariate analyses to reveal the interactions between benthic faunal and geochemical compartments. My first project focused on the seasonal hypoxic Gullmar Fjord (Sweden) aiming to understand denitrifying foraminiferal ecology and macrofaunal bioirrigation impacts on biogeochemical cycles (Nitrogen and Manganese). My second project focused on the biomonitoring of a mudflat (France) aiming to understand the predator-prey (foraminifera-diatoms) relationship, benthic foraminifera temporal dynamics, and their geochemical micro-environments as sedimentary indicators of meteorological and hydrodynamic temporal variations.
My ongoing post-doctoral research focuses to generate geological records based on subpolar calcifying organisms (foraminifera), documenting the responses of environmental and marine climate changes during times of rapid warming, deoxygenation, and pH decrease by analysing biogenic calcite samples. I will use a combination of synchrotron X-ray µCT scan and µXRF, and plasma-based elemental analyses.
