It is with sadness that we inform that Professor Svante Björck has passed away. Svante played an important role for the department as well as for geological research in Sweden for several decades. Svante was active in research and education, and he has inspired many students to pursue a career in geology, not least through his engagement in our introductory course in Geology. Svante was also a very important figure in Swedish geological research, he served many years for the Science Council and was active within the society at large. With the death of Svante, we have lost a close colleague and dear friend.
