Equipment
Lund University Palaeomagnetic Laboratory is well equipped to measure natural and artificially induced magnetisations. The "flagship" of the laboratory is a 2G-Enterprises superconducting rock magnetometer (model 760), with in-line alternating field demagnetization coils, in-line DC coil for acquisition of anhysteric remanent magnetisations and a separate off-line pulse magnetiser for acquisition of isothermal remanent magnetisations for whole core sections up to fields of 1 Tesla.
Thermal demagnetisation of samples can be undertaken in a Magnetic Measurements Ltd MMTD80 thermal demagnetiser, which is equipped with a solenoid and constant current power supply for producing thermal remanent magnetisation as part of the Thellier-Thellier palaeointensity method. Heating can take place in a controlled inert atmosphere.
A Princeton Measurements Corporation alternating gradient magnetometer (M2900-2) is available for measuring room temperature magnetic hysteresis properties and time dependent magnetisations.
An AGICO MFK-FA three frequency multifunction kappabridge for measuring ani- sotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) and bulk magnetic susceptibility in weak variable magnetic fields.
Other equipment includes:
1. An in-house built magnetic susceptibility core conveyor coupled to a Bartington Instruments Ltd MS2 meter and MS2E1 surface scanner. Discrete sample MS2B dual frequency sensor and a whole core loop are also available.
2. Geofyzica Brno KLY-2 Kappabridge with the CS-2 facility for measuring the temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility.
3. A Redcliffe 700-BSM pulse magnetizer and two Molspin Minispin magnetometers for the induction and measurement of isothermal remanent magnetisations.
