Thin section and polishing laboratory

The lab is equipped with a LaboSystem (http://www.struers.com/Products/Grinding-and-Polishing/Grinding-and-polishing-equipment/LaboSystem) used for grinding and polishing specifically with a LaboPol-60 with 300 mm diameter disks and a LaboForce-Mi specimen mover head.

For epoxy impregnation of mounts and for gluing materials to glass plates the lab uses Struers EpoFix resin and hardener and for vacuum impregnation that lab has a Citovac. For more information about mounting see e.g. https://www.struers.com/en/Knowledge/Mounting/Cold-mounting#

Before using the laboratory it is necessary to have a short introduction to the instruments and methods, which can be obtained by contacting tomas [dot] naeraa [at] geol [dot] lu [dot] se.

The cost for using the lab equipment is:

100 SEK per sample doing grinding and polishing

50 SEK per mount for epxoy embedding

20 SEK per sample for removing epoxy
