Kristin Doering
Researcher
I am a marine biogeochemist, studying the past marine silica and nitrogen cycle based on microfossils and bulk sediment samples.
My Ph.D. thesis, which I have written at the University of Kiel and the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research in Kiel, dealt with the changes in nutrient cycling in the Peruvian Coastal Upwelling System since the last deglaciation. Since then, I have worked on Postdoctoral Projects dealing with the Holocene Labrador Sea and the modern Siberian Arctic. For this, I have worked at the Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada, and the GEOMAR in Kiel, Germany.
In my position as a Researcher at the Department of Geology in Lund, I am involved in the Devocean project led by Prof. Daniel Conley and taking over some teaching responsibilities at the Department. My research focuses on the late Cretaceous (Cenomanian to Coniacian) silica cycle. I am reconstructing past dissolved silica concentrations and surface silica utilization based on sponges spicules, radiolaria and diatoms from the Canadian Arctic
