GEOM22

Quaternary geology and landscape dynamics

This course provides you with the tools and knowledge needed to analyze and understand the processes that have shaped and continue to transform today’s landscapes. You will engage with complex questions concerning how landscape development is linked to climate change, erosion issues, pollution, and water dynamics. The course offers both theoretical insights into processes and research methodologies, as well as practical training in applying your knowledge within a project framework applicable both in scientific and professional context.

The main objective of the course is to develop your ability to analyze landscapes based on your own observations, field studies, and analyses. This is achieved through extensive project-based fieldwork. The project is carried out in a geographical area where various aspects of the landscape and its development are observed and analyzed. Activities include mapping, studies of sedimentary structures, sediment sampling, and laboratory analyses. The project work is organized in a manner similar to that of a research or industry project.
